I combined several plant specimens to make this pattern.
![]() |
I derived this shape from printingpress gear.
Process:
I took specimens of plants and combined them in several ways so that I could find the best mixture of shapes and composition of pattern. I transferred these patterns to 4x4 squares and I repeated the pattern into 8x8 square. From there, I repeated 8x8 square four times so that it creates 18x18 square of repeated patterns.
Looking at negative spaces are very interesting.

I've been progressing through the drawing pages and have found that I am renewing my skills with time. This is the first drawing I did:
And these are the two latest:
And these are the two latest:
I am also experimenting with styles of gradient with the lines. All of these are continuous line contours (overlapping means inner and outer, right?) as I did in Mrs. Shepp's class. I'm paying more attention to the overall shape of the object, and I think that last hand might capture it better than filling in more as in the previous one. I also wrote brief reflections after each drawing...
I've also done some weaving, but I don't have photos of those pieces yet. I think I'll have to use the printer at school and retroactively place some images in my IWB...

Art galleries on the internet
Check out this link, where PBS "Ideas" channel examines the traditional gallery vs. internet galleries that use internet resources to make groundbreaking art. It's 2.5 minutes.

Hey everyone! My name is Kes, and theses are a couple pieces of my work done over the past couple of years. The first is abstract, done in acrylic paint. It's one of my personal favorites because to me, it's very serene. The second is a still life of an orange done in chalk pastel, a school assaignment. Lastly, my own pencil drawing of an eye. Hope you like them, and I can't wait to meet you all!

06/15 - Maggie
Hello I am Maggie Adair and these are my two observational drawings. I am currently with my grandmother and these are two things that remind me of her. Her favorite tea is Mint and this is her favorite cane out of the many that she has bought all over the world.
I am also working with photography with nature and capturing many different movements within plants or animals. I will upload photos to the blog once I have gotten the photos! :)

Food for Thought
Yesterday this was my quote of the day on my whiteboard:
"A camera is truly a license to explore." Jerry UelsmannPingree '12 saw that, and then read me this quote from his phone (from his art history class) :
"The quality of the photographic image depends not on the camera, but on the choices made by the artist who uses it."
When I arrived this morning Siegle '13 had added this third quote to the board:
"A photographer went to a socialite party in NY. As he entered the front door, the host said 'I love your pictures- they're wonderful; you must have a fantastic camera.' He said nothing until dinner was finished, then: 'That was a wonderful dinner; you must have a terrific stove.'" Sam Haskins
What do you think?
